–A Dreamy Newborn Session in Hampton Park–

There’s something undeniably magical about a cloudy day in Charleston! With its soft, diffused light filtering through the trees, a peaceful hush over the city, and the perfect setting for a cozy and intimate newborn session. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing the sweetest little family at Hampton Park, and the overcast skies created the dreamiest atmosphere for our time together.

Location and Weather

Many people think they need bright sunshine for beautiful photos, but personally, I adore cloudy days. The clouds act as nature’s softbox, creating even, flattering light that’s ideal for newborn sessions. Without harsh shadows or squinting eyes, the focus remains on the love and connection between parents and their little one.

Hampton Park is one of my favorite locations in Charleston for newborn sessions. The towering oak trees, lush greenery, and charming pathways provide a timeless and natural backdrop. On this particular day, the park was quiet and serene, allowing us to move at a slow, gentle pace—perfect for a newborn’s schedule.

The Timing Of Your Newborn Session

Baby Joey (just over three weeks old!) slept soundly in his parents’ arms as we strolled through the park. His tiny fingers curled around his mother’s hand, and his father couldn’t stop smiling as he gazed at his son. These in-between moments—the tender glances and the gentle rocking, and little feeding breaks is what I love to capture.

My approach to newborn photography is all about storytelling. Rather than focusing on stiff poses, I aim to capture authentic moments that reflect the deep bond between parents and their baby. As we wandered through the park, I encouraged Mom and Dad to interact naturally—swaying, snuggling, and simply being in the moment with their little one. The result? Images filled with warmth, emotion, and a timeless quality they’ll cherish forever.
